consider me

Consider me whatever you want.
Consider me tomboyish if I don’t like opening my hair,
Or sitting like Kate Middleton on the chair,
And not trying to make my face look oil-free and fair,
If I think wearing skirts in schools is unfair,
If I like breathing in not perfume but air.
My mother wakes up early in the morning to do prayers,
Just so she could find places to get repaired,
And she asks me “why?”.
Why do I mind when she grasps my face, twisting it this way and that, as if it were a cabbage she might buy
somewhere.
Trust me when I say that I have had my fair share of “Let’s compare”.
I love it when people sit and gawk and stare,
Wondering in despair,
How will we prepare her to look like a marketable facade?
Consider me spoilt and untraditional if I wear whatever I want,
If I talk straight and blunt,
If sometimes I get a little nonchalant,
If my nails are long,
If I don’t mind replying back to you when you’re wrong,
If I tell you that it’s not all your sons but me and girls who are strong,
If I tell you that it’s not in a kitchen but in an office that I belong,
If I don’t act along with your idea of being a supremacist.
Consider me a bad feminist,
If I like being a sentimentalist,
If I think I should keep our room clean because my brother wont,
If I am a perfectionist,
If I’m not also a voting member or an environmentalist,
If I like showing a little skin because it’s not a sin,
If I’m not a specialist on the dates when women were given the right to vote around the world.
Consider me a nerd with qualities of someone uncool,
Because sometimes I do act like a fool,
Because maybe I don’t like breaking the rules to make myself look smart and cruel,
Because I don’t care about the facts if someone goes to a good school and has a big pool,
Because I don’t want to be the fuel to the duel between being amused and being right,
Because I don’t have a collection of jewels but books.
Consider me attention seeking,
If I actually act on something rather than speaking,
If I would rather make notes at night than sleeping,
If when I see a reptile, I resort to shrieking,
If I sometimes mess up while sneaking,
If Harvard is what in life I am seeking,
If I look at your work and then happily be critiquing,
If I have the guts to sing and dance, when on a table I am standing,
If I sometimes like wreaking havoc.
Consider me a rude, mean witch,
Because I will happily fight with you,
I like shouting,
I won’t think twice about shutting you down if you don’t know how to talk to me,
Comebacks are second nature to me,
Manipulation can become a part of me,
Your defeat I will welcome…not in apathy.
So, consider me whatever you want,
Because today I give you the lease,
A cordial invite, an extended warm hug,
With compliments of my sarcasm,
To judge me, please.
